ECO4 Scheme

Fully Funded Energy Upgrades for Low-Income and Inefficient Homes

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme provides full or partial funding for energy-saving measures in qualifying homes. Backed by the UK Government and energy suppliers, it helps reduce household bills and carbon emissions through insulation, renewable heating, and solar installations.

Who Qualifies?

You may qualify if your household meets one or more of the following:

  • Someone receives income-based benefits(e.g. Universal Credit, Income Support, Pension Credit).
  • A member of the household has a health condition affected by cold (cardiovascular, respiratory, immunosuppressive, or limited mobility).
  • Your combined household income is £31,000 or under.
  • Your home has an EPC rating of D–G.
Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)

Insulation for Every Home

The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is designed for households that don’t meet ECO4 criteria but still want to improve energy efficiency. It provides funding for a single insulation measure, helping reduce heat loss and lower bills across a wider range of homes.

Who Qualifies?

You may qualify if:

  • Your home has an EPC rating of D or below
(some E-rated homes also qualify).
  • Your property falls within a lower Council Tax band (A–D in England, A–E in Scotland or Wales).
  • You’re a homeowner, private tenant, or landlord.

GBIS doesn’t require you to receive benefits, it’s open to middle-income and vulnerable households.

Available Upgrades:

  • Loft Insulation
  • Room-in-Roof Insulation

Altum will handle your eligibility check, property survey, and installation through TrustMark-accredited partners.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)

Upgrade to Low-Carbon Heating with Government Support

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides grants to help homeowners and small businesses switch from gas, oil, or LPG systems to low-carbon heating such as Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) or Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP). The scheme offers up to £7,500 towards installation costs — making renewable heating more accessible than ever.

Who Qualifies?

You may be eligible if:

  • You own the property (home or small business).
  • You currently use a fossil fuel heating system (gas, oil, or LPG).
  • Your property has a valid EPC with no outstanding insulation recommendations (or improvements have already been made).

Available Upgrades & Grant Amounts:

  • £7,500 for Air Source Heat Pumps
  • £7,500 for Ground Source Heat Pumps
  • £5,000 for Biomass Boilers (in off-grid areas only)

Altum manages the entire grant process, from eligibility and design to MCS installation and claiming the funding on your behalf.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for more than one scheme?

Yes, depending on your circumstances, you may qualify for different measures under ECO4, GBIS, or BUS. Altum will guide you through the best route to maximise your funding.

Do I have to receive benefits to qualify?

Not always. ECO4 often supports income based benefit recipients, but GBIS and BUS are open to a wider range of households, including those on middle incomes.

Is the funding a loan or a grant?

All three schemes provide grants or funding contributions, not loans, you don’t have to repay the support received.

How long does it take to complete the process?

From eligibility check to installation, most projects are completed within 4–8 weeks, depending on survey and funding approval times.

What accreditations does Altum hold?

All Altum installations are completed by MCS and TrustMark-certified engineers in full compliance with PAS2030/2035 and Ofgem requirements.
